CHINA will hike the reward for its Olympic gold medal winners to 350,000 yuan (US$51,087) each, a senior sports official revealed. The reward from the central government is a 75-percent boost from the 200,000 yuan winners at the 2004 Games received, Xiao Shan, deputy director of the General Administration of Sports, said. However, he did not disclose how much money silver and bronze medalists would receive.
